In 1989 Paul Ryan temporarily split Beautiful taking drummer Ray Jordan with him. With Ryan wanting to record a.s.a.p Jordan asked long time friend Peter Wong(Beautiful Losers,The Wild Side,It!) to play bass on their first demo .
It was arranged for the recording to take place at Toad Hall recording studio in Surrey on the 22nd april 1989.
The 3 tracks on the demo were : Dreamchild , Give me a gun and You scare me.
With this in hand the search was on for a permanent Bass player. They discovered Mitcham based Andy Moloney to form Decembers Children. According to Moloney the only reason he applied for the job was it had a Wimbledon phone number on the ad , but after hearing the demo and being impressed by the bass lines played by Peter Wong ,Moloney joined the band.
Over the next few months they rehearsed and went in to record a new demo at Toad Hall on the 3rd september 1989 , 2 tracks : Here Come The Velvet Girls and Drop Down Dead . Eki the engineer at the studio could not believe the difference in Jordan's drumming and how it had improved , little did she realize it was the bass playing of Moloney that was making Jordan sound so good.
Soon after Moloney and Jordan went to Portugal for a hoilday and to plan and plot the rise of Decembers Children, only to find on returning that Ryan had decided to reform Beautiful. And the rest is history .
