Origins
In the summer of 1991 Andy Meakin and Andy Moloney decided to start a new project to run alongside their then band Better Than You. Initial experiments with former Loved Ones vocalist Steve Wilde and Beautiful guitartist Paul Ryan failed to result in anything substantial forcing them to prolong their involvement with Better Than You
At the time the two shared a flat in the salubrious London suburb of Tooting, with Paul Mabe, the rythym guitarist of Wimbledon glampunk rockers Beautiful.
In January of that year the drummer from Beautiful, Ray Jordan, had debuted on the skins for Surbiton neo-punk band Ruptured Dog, and it became increasingly obvious that Beautiful was approaching the end of its shelf life. Paul therefore was quite receptive to the idea of working with Meakin and Moloney. However he made it clear he was not going to play lead. That led to the introduction through Doug E Dogg(Ruptured Dog), of Ewell guitarist Tony Ware.
Ware met with Moloney and Mabe on September 26th 1991 at Freeways club in Wandsworth and agreed to attend a rehearsal with the errant drummer, Meakin, three days later. After that rehearsal Mabe severed his connections with Beautiful and Kick Asteroid was born.Shortly thereafter Paul Ryan debuted as guitarist for Ruptured Dog
Throughout the Autumn & Winter of 1991 the band rehearsed their material, putting together a set of original tracks with which the debuted in the April of 1992 at The Rock Garden in Covent Garden, London.
The next two years saw the band embark on a frenzy of rehearsals and live gigs throughout the UK's capital city
